Ready to undo 8 years of Obama’s wreckage

No U.S. president put more on the line than Barack Obama to ensure the election of his chosen successor. Now, Hillary Clinton’s failure may serve as a repudiation of much of his two-term legacy.

From the Affordable Care Act to trade, from the Supreme Court to foreign policy and immigration, Donald Trump has vowed to systematically undo what Obama spent eight years putting in place. And the president made the stakes clear, telling supporters on the campaign trail that his accomplishments would go “down the drain” if the Republican won…

Any attempt Obama makes to safeguard his legacy will focus on his hallmark legislative accomplishment, the Affordable Care Act, universally known as Obamacare. Trump has said he will repeal it, and he will enjoy the help of Republican majorities in both chambers of Congress…

Obama will also do what he can to lock in his environmental legacy. His aides pushed hard to recruit other countries to join the Paris Climate agreement, where nations agreed to limit global warming by reducing carbon emissions. The deal was formally put into effect during an 11-day international conference this week, binding the U.S. to the agreement through most of Trump’s first term.

Trump has nonetheless said he will abandon the accord. He is likely to roll back the president’s executive actions limiting American carbon emissions…

The president also lost his chance to reshape the Supreme Court as a more liberal institution. Senate Democrats now face the dilemma of either approving a conservative nominee to the court, or filibustering in a way that disrupts the legislative norms of the upper chamber.

Obama’s rhetoric disguises his bad governance

Obama’s discovery that government bureaucracies don’t do things very well creates a breathtaking disconnect between his transformative ambitions and his detachment from the job itself. How does his Olympian vision coexist with the lassitude of his actual governance, a passivity that verges on absenteeism?

What bridges that gap is rhetoric. Barack Obama is a master rhetorician. It’s allowed him to move crowds, rise inexorably and twice win the most glittering prize of all. Rhetoric has changed his reality. For Obama, it can change the country’s. Hope and change, after all, is a rhetorical device. Of the kind Obama has always imagined can move mountains. That’s why his reaction to the Obamacare Web site’s crash-on-takeoff is so telling.

His remedy? A cross-country campaign-style speaking tour. As if rhetoric could repeal that reality. Managing, governing, negotiating, cajoling, crafting legislation, forging compromise. For these—this stuff of governance—Obama has shown little aptitude and even less interest.

Liberals and their manipulative name calling

Liberals smear their opponents and then issue hypocritical calls for ‘civility.’  What passes for argument among liberals is the hurling of SIXHRB epithets: sexist, intolerant, xenophobic, homophobic, racist, bigoted (acronym via Dennis Prager).

For example, if you oppose illegal immigration then you are a xenophobe; if you carefully argue against Obamacare then you a racist; if you give reasons why marriage is between a man a woman you are dismissed as a bigot.  If you oppose the slaughter of innocent human beings which is abortion you are waging war against women and interfering with their ‘health’ and ‘reproductive rights.’   If you point out the very real threat of radical Islam, then you are dismissed as an  ‘Islamaphobe’ with a mental illness.

Pro-lifers defeating Obama’s sinful policies

March for Life, the organizers of the largest pro-life event in the U.S., won a historic victory Monday when a federal judge stopped the Obama administration from forcing the group to pay for drugs that could cause an abortion.

The lawsuit, March for Life v. Burwell, was filed in July of 2014 through the Alliance Defending Freedom after the healthcare mandate forced non-religious employers to provide coverage for contraception, including drugs that could induce an abortion, and planned to financially penalize any who didn’t…

While many para-church organizations are suing the Obama administration over the mandate, the March for Life case tests whether a secular organization should be exempt from the mandate when it holds moral objections.

Judge Richard J. Leon of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia ruled that objections to contraception are “not confined to religiously affiliated employers.”

Liberals love licentiousness, yet loathe liberty

Are you willing to sell your birthright, liberty, for a mess of pottage? That’s the issue. Liberals are a strange breed of cat. They’ll puke their guts out in defense of their ‘right’ to abortion and their ‘right’ to violate every norm of decency in pursuit of the ‘artistic’ expression of their precious and vacuous selves, but when it comes to the right to be in control of the sorts of care their bodies receive they reverse course and surrender their liberties.

Leftism condones (the) evil(s of big government)

Lefties hate business and especially big corporations. I give the latter no pass if they do wrong or violate reasonable regulations. But has Apple or Microsoft ever incarcerated anyone, or put anyone to death, or started a shooting war, or forced anyone to buy anything or to violate his conscience as the Obama administration is doing via its signature abomination, Obamacare?

On the other hand, did the government provide me with the iPad Air I just bought? You didn’t build that, Obama! Not you, not your government, not any government. High tech does not come from politicians or lawyers, two classes that are nearly the same — yet another problem to be addressed in due course.

Be intellectually honest, you lefties. Don’t turn a blind eye to the depredations of Big Government while excoriating (sometimes legitimately) those of Big Business.

Obama’s rhetorical failure on contraceptives

A federal appeals court on Friday struck down the birth control mandate in ObamaCare, concluding the requirement trammels religious freedom…

The Obama administration said that the requirement is necessary to protect women’s right to decide whether and when to have children.

The judges were unconvinced, however, that forcing companies to cover contraception protected that right.

Brown wrote that “it is clear the government has failed to demonstrate how such a right — whether described as noninterference, privacy, or autonomy — can extend to the compelled subsidization of a woman’s procreative practices.”
