The unsettling tendency of the totalitarian left

The left tends toward the totalitarian. And every totalitarian ideology seeks to weaken the bonds between children and parents. The left seeks to dilute parental authority and replace it with school authority and government authority.

No conversation with progressive ideologues

In contrast, all liberals, especially Hillary Clinton, live in a world of ideology completely unmoored from reality. This is inherently dangerous. We can see it in their desire to create a marriage out of two people of the same gender and their belief that gender is a choice instead of a matter of biology. When leaders start trying to conform society to principles against reality, you end up with totalitarianism because you need the force of the state to try to continually change a reality that will not change. We saw it in communist Russia and we can see it in the [Catholic] Church since Vatican II…

With a progressive ideologue, there is no conversation. Because that person rejects all of the reality based premises you are starting from. They work off of the false premises that white people are all oppressors and have “privilege”, all men are sexists, there are no differences between genders, gender is a social construct, following one’s religious teachings upholding the natural law is discriminatory and prejudiced. There is no compromise with such an individual because they are living in an unreal world of their own construction.

Forgetting to remember the state’s militancy

Michael Walzer disclosed his fears of religion in this way:

For myself, I live with a generalized fear of every form of religious militancy. I am afraid of Hindutva zealots in India, of messianic Zionists in Israel, and of rampaging Buddhist monks in Myanmar. But I admit that I am most afraid of Islamist zealots because the Islamic world at this moment in time (not always, not forever) is especially feverish and fervent.

To which Bill Vallicella responded:

Walzer needs to be reminded that we conservatives also harbor a rational fear, a fear of leftists who have no problem with using the awesome power of the state to destroy the liberties of individuals.

When the left says tolerance, it means coercion

With all this power, the left controls more and more of the life of the American citizen. And when nothing stops the left, the left doesn’t stop.

Take tolerance…

For the left, tolerance does not mean tolerance. It means first, acceptance. And second, celebration. That is totalitarianism: You not only have to live with what you may differ with, dear citizen, you have to celebrate it or pay a steep price.

Note the mutation of sodomite rhetoric

The Evolution of the Gay Mantra….

1970’s “Live and let live.”

1980’s “Tolerance! Tolerance!”

1990’s “Don’t shove your values down my throat!”

2000’s “We expect you to change your lives to honor our lifestyle; we have no tolerance for your beliefs. We’re going to shove our values down your throat.”

2010’s “…and if that doesn’t work, we’re going to get the government to bully you into submission.”

The government’s totalitarian tendencies in 2015

The state says to the individual: you have a right to your religious and philosophical beliefs, but only so long as you keep them to yourself and don’t allow them to be expressed in your relations with your fellow citizens.  You may believe what you want in the privacy of your own mind, but you may not translate your beliefs into social or political action.  But we are free to translate our leftist ‘theology’ into rules and regulations that diminish your liberty.  What then becomes of the “free exercise of religion” spoken of in the First Amendment?  It is out the window.  The totalitarian state has taken one more step in its assault on the liberty of the individual.

The totalitarian state of the contemporary liberal says to the individual: you have no right to live your beliefs unless we allow you to; but we have every right to impose our leftist beliefs on you and force you to live as we see fit.

Here are some home truths that cannot be repeated too often:

We are not the property of the state.

Our rights and liberties do not come from the state, but are logically antecedent to it, inscribed as they are in the very nature of things.

We do not have to justify our keeping of what is ours; the state has to justify its taking.

Leftists and totalitarians: strange bedfellows

There is also something curious about leftists, who are totalitarians from the ground up, the top down, and from side to side, worrying about the ultimate power of the state. These are same moral cretins who want to use the power of the state to force florists and caterers to violate their consciences.
